The Bowen technique is a dynamic hands-on system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia.
The Bowen Technique may provide relief for many types of injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic, and it does so holistically, via the body's innate healing mechanisms.
The therapist delivers signals to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves) and the body does the rest, responding in its own time. The Bowen Technique addresses the whole body by restoring balance to the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). The ANS controls over 80% of the bodily functions and is very susceptible to external stressors. During sessions clients often drop into deep relaxation, or fall asleep.
The Bowen technique is very gentle, non-invasive and suitable for people of all ages and in all degrees of health.

A session normally lasts 45 mins to an hour, however the first session will take longer, as it will include the initial consultation. Clients usually lie on a therapy table, or may be seated in a chair if required, for comfort.
A 'session' involves one or more 'procedures', each of which consists of several sets of 'moves'. Bowen moves are gentle, but purposeful, and are preferably done directly on skin, but may be done through light clothing if necessary. Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for as many minutes as are needed for the client's body to begin responding. As the nervous system begins to adjust the tension level in the muscles, the practitioner senses when the client is ready for the next set of moves.
I previously spent many years working in local government, before taking early retirement when the opportunity arose. At my leaving party I was discussing with a former colleague about my future plans, and told her that having qualified to practice Reiki some years previously I thought I might like to learn another alternative therapy, to which she replied 'you must learn Bowen therapy'! She went on to explain how much she had benefitted from it, despite initially being sceptical. I decided to do some research, having never heard of Bowen before, and consequently decided that it was definitely something worth doing. Therefore after spending an initial few months during the summer relaxing and enjoying the sunshine, I enrolled on a Bowen therapy course and am so pleased that I did, as I absolutely love it, and am amazed by its power and the difference it can make.
I am a member of the Bowen Association UK, possess a Level 3 qualification in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology, Level 2 Reiki and have up-to-date First AId and Insurance certificates
I hope you will give it a try and experience the potential benefits of Bowen Therapy!!
